...I stopped at a benefit sale for the Rose House, where amongst other things they had a TI 1200 calculator from 1975 still in box and in pristine condition; a bit of a Bargain Hunt find, that was, but I told them to eBay it instead of selling it to me for $1. They were eBay aware, they just had no idea it might be worth something.

I also bought a used labelmaker (another $1 special), which makes me happy, because I love these stupid things:

I don't really have anything to label right now because I want to get some of the plastic labelling tape instead of the plain white paper it came with, so I labelled my cat.

I love those things too!

I wonder if FRED likes them nearly as much as we do though?

YAY for bargains! I donated a Bowmar Brain calculator to the NY Computer Museum that I bought for maybe $3.00 at a thrift shop. I'm trying to fix the TI 150 calculator's keyboard so I can sell it for a zillion dollars on ebay.

I've resisted getting one of those p-touch style labelmakers because the ribbons are expensive, and it's just too TINY compared to the Croy machine I used in drafting :-) You got a great deal.

I have the Dymo embossed label makers, but sadly the adhesive on the label stock I have is going bad :-( I've had them for so long that it's now "retro"!

Aluminium tape. Lasts forever, has remarkably sticky adhesive. (Works okay for patching holes in vent tubes, too!)

And all the more fun to get them at a garage-sale or the Goodwill outlet store (south side of town, north of Graybar). 'The thrill of the hunt' and all that.

Wheee! That looks like FUN!

Btw, my new next-door neighbor is having a tools and car parts sale next weekend. Email me for details if you might be interested.

The label makers are handy for taking to conventions where they have printed names in micro-type. Lisa usually brings a few strips pre-printed with our names (and in the case of ham radio conferences, our callsigns) for this purpose.

Fred looks like he's thinking "Must you humiliate me like this?"

And here I was just thinking that Fred looks astonishingly sanguine about having a label stuck to his nose.

It's absolutely essential to steal dignity from your cat at every opportunity. That way you don't run out from them enthusiastically stealing yours.

Ihoyû! That's a most excellent find. We have quite the collection of industrial-type hand-held Dymo stampers, which work on aluminium tape -- good for weather-proof labelling of things. We do that for things that are stacked outside cover, like core-boxes. Might work nicely as garden-markers, too.

For making draughting labels, we have the old Brother PT-6, which was a new purchase back in 1988 -- they still make the tapes for it. What's nifty about it is the user interface -- a rotary dial just like the hand-held Dymos. I wonder whether the designers were consciously copying that? Certainly the later machines had QWERTY keyboards. Now I wonder whether they made Dvorak ones, too?

I had so much fun with Dymo labellers as a kid. I made humorously appropriate labels for people. Such as "Friendly local bookie." for a librarian.

Labeled cat FTW.

Now, if I did that to Nibblet, the look in her eyes would be about the same, but I'd lose a hand about a millisecond after the shutter clicked.

My old boss once bought a label-maker on a tuesday night. When I went in to work on Wednesday morning, it was like walking into Richard Scarry's Best Word Office Ever. He'd even labeled the fridge.

1) I find it interesting that this post seems to have the most replies of any of your posts. Interesting.

2) You named your cat "Fred"???

My sophomore year of college, I moved in with another Stephanie. We labelled everything in the dorm room "Stephanie" so, as we told visitors, we could tell what belonged to who. XD
