I can't help but suspect that the Republicans' leadership think that pulling the trigger on a Second Depression will guarantee them the ability to turn the USA into the petro-theocracy many of them seem to want. I don't want that Second Depression, but if we're shoved into it, the people who do the shoving ought to lose their jobs to it as well.
